Mother has, can she breastfeed her child?

Patient's question:

Now that the child is 4 days old, it was discovered after birth that the liver has been affected.

Doctor's answer:

The transmission methods of the hepatitis B virus only have three routes: blood, sexual contact, and mother-to-child. Mother-to-child vertical transmission is the most common way, where the child gets infected in the womb or during childbirth. However, what is often overlooked is that breastfeeding can also transmit the virus. If the mother is a hepatitis B patient, her milk contains the hepatitis B virus. Moreover, when the baby suckles the mother's nipple, it can easily cause cracked nipples, allowing blood or bodily fluids to be ingested along with the milk, leading to the baby becoming infected. Therefore, do not breastfeed the baby.
