My child is always sick, how should I feed them?

Patient's question:

My daughter is seven months old and just weaned, but she has been running a fever and getting sick recently. It's really frustrating. Is there any good feeding method that can help? Thank you

Doctor's answer:

Hello:
Specific diagnosis and treatment are required based on clinical symptoms.
Mixed feeding: This involves adding other milk or supplementary foods when breast milk supply is insufficient. For example, for infants aged 2-3 months with a shortage of milk, cow's milk can be supplemented with rice soup. When introducing cow's milk or formula, breast milk should be fed first because the nipple of the bottle is larger, making it easier for the infant to suck, often leading to them eating only half a meal before switching to breast milk. They may then refuse to continue eating. This phenomenon is medically referred to as "nipple confusion." The frequency of breastfeeding should remain the same as before to maintain daily milk production.
2. For children under 6 years old, a hemoglobin level below 110 g/L (11 g/100 mL) is considered anemia. Iron supplements should be provided:
(1) 10% ammonium iron citrate syrup: 1-2 mL/kg/day, divided into 3 doses.
(2) Iron-fortified supplements: 50-150 mg per dose, 2-3 times daily.
(3) Ferrous sulfate syrup
(4) Fumaric iron dry granules
(5) Beibei blood treasure
(6) Green iron oral liquid
(7) Dextran iron
