Features: To promote the clinical visual electrophysiological examination method, since 1980, we have held multiple training courses in Shanghai and other cities, playing a significant role in its popularization in China. It has been proven that visual electrophysiological examination can improve the diagnostic level of retinal diseases. Currently, visual electrophysiological examination is rapidly developing from tertiary hospitals to primary-level hospitals. It has been listed by the Ministry of Health as one of the preferred equipment standards for secondary and tertiary hospitals. Under this circumstances, there is an urgent need for a reference book suitable for ophthalmologists and technicians. To meet this objective need, with the efforts of all colleagues, the writing of the entire book was completed over more than a year, and it was named "Principles and Practice of Visual Electrophysiology," with the hope that it will contribute to further promoting the development of clinical visual electrophysiological work in China. The book consists of 23 chapters, divided into two parts. The first and second chapters of the first part mainly introduce the histology and physiology of the retina and visual centers related to visual electrophysiology. The third and fourth chapters respectively introduce the basic knowledge of visual electrophysiology and the principles of recording equipment. From the fifth to the twelfth chapters, the focus is on the standardized flash electroretinogram, image electroretinogram, visual electrooculogram, and non-standardized recording items recommended by ISCEV. The eleventh and twelfth chapters respectively describe the newly emerging technologies in the past decade, such as multifocal electroretinogram and scanning visual evoked potential vision testing. The second part, from the thirteenth to the twenty-second chapters, briefly introduces the visual electrophysiological characteristics of retinal diseases, glaucoma, amblyopia, toxic ophthalmic diseases, refractive media opacity, optic nerve diseases, eye trauma, and central nervous system disorders. The final chapter of the book is specifically written for animal experiments in visual electrophysiology, which may be beneficial for those who wish to use animal experiments with visual electrophysiology to complete research projects.
