Features: Chen Xintian's Surgical Solutions is a collection of clinical case studies by the Qing Dynasty physician Chen Xintian, with an unknown publication date. Chen Xintian was a native of Wu County (now part of Jiangsu Province) during the Daoguang and Xianfeng reigns, and was born in Changzhou Fengqiao. He was skilled in both internal and external medicine, renowned as a master of surgical diseases, and held great prestige during his time. The book is organized by disease, covering 230 categories such as lung abscess, gastric abscess, goiter, wrist lymphangitis, and forehead carbuncle, with a total of 658 recorded cases. It also includes 36 supplementary herbal formulas for external use (though 3 are duplicates, making 33 unique formulas). The content involves surgical diseases such as sores, carbuncles, goiters, lymphangitis, lymphadenitis, breast conditions, skin conditions, and genitourinary issues. Each case begins with a description of the condition before detailing the prescribed treatments. The Guide to Surgical Cases is divided into twenty-nine sections, including head, nose, ear, eye, etc. It contains over 200 cases of conditions such as cerebrospinal fluid leakage, nasal abscess, submandibular swelling, and eye pain. The author discusses the symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis, treatment, and formulas for each condition in the order of human organs, from head to toe. This provides significant help for beginners in systematically mastering the treatment of common surgical diseases.
Zhu Feiyuan was a Qing Dynasty physician. His work On Clinical Insights (also known as Zhu Xingcun's Surgical Cases), copied and preserved by his successor Chao Nianhuai, is a rare manuscript in China. The book consists of four volumes: Volume 1 covers the head, Volume 2 the throat and neck, Volume 3 the internal abscesses of the upper and lower body, and Volume 4 the limbs and undefined locations. It also includes appendices such as On the Origins of Surgery, On the Treatment of Carbuncles and Back Sores, and Essential Herbal Formulas for Surgical Use. The book records over 200 types of traumatic and surgical conditions.
The Medical Cases of Aiye documents 26 cases of conditions such as croup, tonsillitis, neck abscess, and alveolar abscess, with 45 prescribed formulas. Each case emphasizes etiology and pathogenesis alongside differential diagnosis and treatment, with detailed and well-organized discussions. Many cases use pulse diagnosis to assess disease progression, allowing for precise and effective treatment. The descriptions of each condition are comprehensive and vivid, with flexible and varied treatment principles.
