Features: This book, A Study in Epistemology, has gone through many hardships. During the War of Resistance, I had already completed it while in Kunming. Once, during an air raid alert, I wrapped up the manuscript and ran to She Mountain in the north of Kunming for shelter, sitting on the manuscript itself. After the alert was lifted, I stood up and left. By the time I remembered, the manuscript was already gone. It was a book with hundreds of thousands of words, and rewriting it was not easy. But it had to be rewritten. A Study in Epistemology was the book that required the most effort and time from me! What is epistemology? It seems to be a very easy question to answer—it is the study that makes theoretical statements about knowledge. It is a field of study with an object, with certain sets of questions, and for each set of questions, there have been certain sets of answers from those who have studied this field. These answers are then synthesized into a theoretical system. The differences between it and other fields of study will be discussed in the following section. Since epistemology takes knowledge as its object, the most important question, of course, is what knowledge is. However, we cannot answer this question at present. The reason why it is still called "epistemology" may be that the answer to this question is the entire field of epistemology. If someone raises this question and seeks an answer, we can only ask them to wait and see how this book unfolds.
