Patient's question:
I have always had yellow skin and yellow eyes since I was a child, with no color on my face. Every year, I have a liver function check-up, the two pairs of half, to check for things like hepatitis B. The doctor said it's normal. Recently, for the past half month, the right side of my stomach has been swollen. The left side is normal, the intestines are smooth, but I can't pass stools. Please ask if there is a connection?Doctor's answer:
Jaundice, also known as icterus, is commonly referred to as yellow disease. It is a symptom and sign characterized by the yellowing of the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera due to elevated bilirubin levels in the blood. Certain liver diseases, gallbladder diseases, and blood disorders often cause jaundice. The skin, sclera, and other tissues may turn yellow. When jaundice worsens, urine, sputum, tears, and sweat may also turn yellow, while saliva generally remains unchanged. At times, it may also manifest as reduced appetite, nausea, aversion to fatty foods, fatigue, yellow urine like tea, liver area pain, fever, and in some severe hepatitis cases, symptoms such as abdominal distension, oliguria, and a tendency to bleed may be observed.
