Features: From a temporal perspective, it is not merely a matter of past events; tradition reflects a cultural inheritance, that intrinsic spiritual element that bridges the past, extends into the present, and reaches toward the future. Today, when we savor tradition, it is not to indulge in nostalgic longing or to reminisce about the traces of the past, but to interpret the cultural genes we carry within us, thereby gaining the wisdom and strength needed to move forward. Things have their cycles of birth and decay, and the past and present merge into antiquity and modernity. Each of us is a passerby at a historical station. As we gaze at the scenery before us at this station, we see a continuous flow of time—such a flow that connects the past, present, and future. The spiritual core of tradition lies in its transmission, much like the "Lamp Records" in Chan Buddhism, where lamps are connected one to another, and light is boundless, forming a bright world. As long as you are a "guest," you cannot escape this flow of time. Rather than merely drifting aimlessly with this current, it is better to bend down and pick up a few seashells on the shore of time, to use them as decorations for the palace of our consciousness. A few reeds can serve as the roots of wisdom that connect heaven and earth. Therefore, the selection of this series of books, while also focusing on the essence of Chinese culture, does not aim merely at accumulating knowledge. Our interest lies in the wisdom of navigating life, the character of being human, the zest of life, and the spiritual qualities that remain deeply connected to us today. We call these living spirits the essence. It should be said that this is a living essence. Our selection and interpretation are intended to help readers appreciate: how Confucius guides us from the base and petty self toward the ideal state, how Zhuangzi leads us from the narrow rivers to the vast ocean, how Li Bai's unrestrained spirit embodies extraordinary freedom, how Du Fu's undulating style reflects profound composure and passion, how Sun Tzu's military strategies reveal sharp human insight, and how Zhuge Liang's strategies unveil a broad and magnanimous heart. When we read these works, we are reading the souls that resonate with us. The initial compilation of this series selects more than 30 important ancient Chinese classics, divided into 20 volumes, covering five categories: philosophical classics, literary essence, military strategies, elementary education texts, and life wisdom. The works selected are the essence of the essence of traditional Chinese culture, reflecting from one angle the extraordinary charm of ancient Chinese culture. This series is aimed at the general public. On one hand, it selects content closely related to the lives of contemporary people, while also striving to provide concise annotations and translations of the selected texts, accompanied by vivid and lively illustrations to help readers grasp the essence and spirit within. The overall organization and explanation of this series have been refined through the collective efforts of numerous experts and scholars over many years. Building upon a thorough absorption of current research findings, it also incorporates the interpreters' unique insights. Due to limitations in ability, there may inevitably be shortcomings in the book, and we sincerely invite the readers to offer criticism and corrections.

In the preface to Studies on Song and Yuan Drama, Wang Guowei said: "Every era has its own literature. The Chu Ci of the Chu, the Fu of the Han, the language of the Six Dynasties, the poetry of the Tang, the Ci of the Song, and the Qu of the Yuan are all what is called the literature of their respective eras." The Yuan Qu, generally speaking, mainly includes two forms: one is Sanqu, a new literary style that emerged in the Yuan Dynasty, including xiaoling, daigu, and ququ; the other is Zaju, which developed from ququ.
