Features: Emile Durkheim was a renowned sociologist from France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After graduating from the école Normale Supérieure in Paris in 1882, he taught at various secondary schools in cities like Sens. From 1885 to 1886, he studied in Germany and was highly favored by Wilhelm Wundt, the founder of experimental psychology. Upon returning to France, he became a lecturer in social philosophy at the University of Bordeaux and later was promoted to a professorship. In 1896, he founded the Année Sociologique. In 1902, he categorized sociology into various subfields such as general sociology, sociology of religion, sociology of law, sociology of crime, sociology of economics, sociology of morality, sociology of social morphology, and sociology of aesthetics, among others. At the same time, he also defined sociology as a science that studies various social institutions and social processes using comparative methods.
