How to treat a one-year-old and four-month-old baby with cough, phlegm, and nasal congestion

Patient's question:

Nasal congestion, cough with phlegm, sore throat, low-grade fever (usually at night), crying upon waking up. The onset date was the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month.
Laboratory and examination results: Blood test results showed slightly elevated levels (4%). The doctor at the hospital on the same day diagnosed viral cold and acute laryngitis. A nebulizer treatment was administered, and the following medications were prescribed: Anning Granules, Cefprozil Dry Suspension, Acetaminophen and Dextromethorphan Suspension (for children), and Kaihou Jian Spray (child-friendly version).
The symptoms haven’t improved significantly, so I’d like to ask for your advice on how to treat this.

Doctor's answer:

Your baby's condition is caused by cold symptoms, which generally lead to symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, cough, fever, dry cough, reduced appetite, and irritability. If the phlegm is yellow, it is likely due to a bacterial infection, while clear nasal discharge and white phlegm are more indicative of a viral infection. The cold could potentially develop into pneumonia.
For your baby's condition, I recommend a light, warm, small-portion, frequent, easily digestible diet, along with plenty of fluids. I suggest administering Ribavirin Granules, Azithromycin Granules, and Children's Paracetamol and Chlorpheniramine Granules for treatment. If your baby has a fever, you can also give Ibuprofen Suspension for Infants. Wishing your baby a speedy recovery and healthy growth.
