Features: Basic Economics Mathematics is one of the core courses designated by the Ministry of Education for undergraduate finance and economics majors, including three subjects: "Calculus," "Linear Algebra," and "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics." Through years of teaching practice, we have found that finance and economics students generally struggle with math problems. In particular, linear algebra exercises are quite abstract with many proof problems. Probability theory and mathematical statistics are also courses where students first encounter the study of random phenomena, significantly increasing the learning difficulty. Often, they don’t know how to approach certain problems. Without practicing exercises, it is impossible to excel in mathematics. At the same time, today’s university students have many courses, tight schedules, and must also prepare for various proficiency exams, leaving them with little time and energy to work through a large number of exercises. Therefore, we have compiled this study and problem-solving guide, aiming to help students improve their problem-solving skills quickly by selecting fewer representative exercises, while also ensuring they thoroughly grasp fundamental concepts, theories, and operational skills, thereby achieving better learning outcomes. "Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics" is the third volume of the college-level textbook "Economic Applied Mathematics Foundation" originally commissioned by the former Ministry of Education and edited by Professor Zhao Shuyuan of the Department of Economic Information Management at Renmin University of China. It introduces the basic knowledge of elementary probability theory and some methods of mathematical statistics, while also providing a brief introduction to Markov chains. Economic applied mathematics foundation is a compulsory course for finance, economics, and management majors. However, certain content in the course can be challenging for some readers, especially self-learners, such as difficulties in understanding certain concepts or mastering operational techniques. Therefore, many readers hope for reference books to help study the course, and this book was written in response to such requests.
