Features: Over the past decade, with the deepening of China's reform and opening-up, socialist democracy and the rule of law have made significant progress. At the same time, the adjudication work of the people's courts has also advanced greatly. In addition to criminal and civil trials, economic, administrative, and transportation adjudications have been gradually introduced. Annually, courts across the country handle approximately 3 million first-instance cases of various types. The trial procedures have become increasingly refined, and the quality of adjudication work has continuously improved. We believe it is necessary to systematically compile court adjudication cases to introduce the practice of Chinese adjudication to domestic and international audiences, showcasing the achievements of China's rule of law construction. At the same time, it also provides valuable reference materials for Chinese judicial workers, legislative workers, as well as teaching and research personnel.
To this end, the National College of Judges Training Center and the Law School of Renmin University of China have jointly collaborated since 1992 to annually compile a comprehensive volume of adjudication cases, each including cases concluded in the previous year. The volumes are divided into four parts: Criminal Adjudication Cases, Civil Adjudication Cases, Economic Adjudication Cases, and Administrative Adjudication Cases. Due to the limited number of transportation adjudication cases, which are insufficient to form a separate volume, they are categorized and included in the Economic and Criminal volumes, respectively. The title of the book is "Comprehensive Review of Chinese Adjudication Cases."
During the compilation process, the book fully respects the actual case facts, adjudication procedures, grounds for judgment, and outcomes, ensuring objectivity and authenticity. To facilitate readers' understanding of the specific adjudication process, details such as the adjudicating body at each level, litigants, conclusion time, claims of both parties, identified case facts, evidence accepted, and applicable legal provisions are included. To help readers better understand the rationale for legal application and relevant legal theories, the compilers have written explanations and provided comments on any shortcomings in the judgments. Some editions also include brief legal terminology explanations in appendices.
