1. This book is a teaching material written for self-study exams in Japanese at the undergraduate level in higher education institutions. It serves as the textbook for the course design plan "Syntax and Textual Analysis." Since the Japanese self-study exam for the junior college level already has a "Japanese Grammar Course" focused on explaining word formation, this book only briefly mentions morphology.
2. There is only one Japanese grammar, but explanations of grammar vary widely, such as Yamada Grammar, Hashimoto Grammar, and Tokizaki Grammar, none of which are the commonly referred to "School Grammar." Considering the history, current state of Japanese education in China, and the actual situation of Japanese learners, this book adheres to the principle of neither being confined to a single viewpoint nor excessively expanding. It primarily follows the "School Grammar" while incorporating other schools to facilitate understanding, comprehension, and mastery for Chinese Japanese learners. In this sense, it represents a new attempt.
3. In terms of practical content, "Textual Analysis" should correspond to the "Textual Analysis" in Japanese grammar. There are many "Textual Theories" published in Japan, but their content and structure differ significantly. In this part of the book, we pay attention not to make it a "writing textbook" but also to combine theory with practice, making it easier for learners to grasp and apply.
4. Mastering the appropriate level of complexity is a key issue we focused on during the writing process. We used the "Teaching Syllabus for the Basic Stage of Japanese Majors in Higher Education Institutions" and the "Teaching Syllabus for the Advanced Stage of Japanese Majors in Higher Education Institutions" compiled by the Japanese Teaching Group of the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education as the standard to define the content, which aligns well with the syllabus requirements. Therefore, this book can be used as a teaching material for Japanese majors in ordinary higher education institutions.
