Doctor's answer:

Do not rush to reduce fever in children with colds. Fever is a defensive response of the body, which is beneficial for eliminating invading bacteria and also the normal growth and development of children. However, when the fever is high (above 39℃), fever reduction should be guided by a doctor. The best way to reduce fever is through physical cooling methods, such as cold compresses and alcohol baths. If physical methods do not lower the temperature, fever-reducing drugs can be used in conjunction.
Common fever-reducing drugs include:
- 10–20% Metamizole nasal drops, 1–3 drops each time;
- Chlorpheniramine tablets, 0.35 mg per kilogram of body weight per day, taken in 3–4 doses orally;
- Children's fever-reducing suppositories, half to one suppository each time, inserted into the rectum, not exceeding 3 times a day, and after fever reduction.
Do not use APC (Compound Aspirin) because APC has stimulating effects. Infants and young children have immature nervous system inhibition mechanisms, and high fever can easily trigger convulsions when using this drug. It may also cause collapse due to excessive sweating and jaundice due to the accumulation of free bilirubin in the blood. Additionally, this medication can harm the digestive system and liver and kidney function, and some cases may lead to Reye's syndrome, causing a decrease in white blood cells and platelets. It is generally not recommended to use this drug in children under 3 years old.
