What's wrong with a baby spitting up milk

Patient's question:

Medical Description: My 5-month-old daughter has been vomiting frequently recently. She vomits everything she eats within a short time, which was not the case before. Medical History and Effectiveness: She has not been treated. Desired Help: What could be causing this?

Doctor's answer:

1. Before feeding, change the diaper first, and do not move the baby's body after feeding.
2. When the baby lies down, the head should be slightly elevated, and the body should be kept in a right-side-lying position. This allows the milk in the stomach to flow smoothly through the pylorus to the duodenum.
3. Wrap a small towel around the baby's neck to prevent vomit from flowing onto the neck and irritating the skin (vomit often contains stomach acid and pepsin), which can cause neck skin erosion.
4. After each feeding, hold the baby upright and gently pat their back until they burp before lying down. If the baby gags, turns blue, or develops purple lips after spitting up, immediately place them face down on your knees with their head lower and pat their back firmly. Once the baby's color returns to normal, take them to the hospital for further treatment.
