Features: This collection of essays is titled "Theories of History and the History of Historiography," aiming to illustrate what we have already done, what we are currently doing, and what we aspire to do in the fields of historiographical theory and the history of historiography. More precisely, we hope to find an appropriate convergence point between the two, organically integrating them to fully showcase their unique characteristics. Specifically, historiographical theory should be constructed under the premise of historiographical history research, and the concrete process of historiographical development should be reflected in the abstract and generalization of historiographical theory. In this way, we endeavor to contribute our utmost efforts to advancing the development of Chinese historiography.
This collection includes 29 essays, divided into five groups:
Group 1 focuses on reflections on historiographical theory, primarily exploring historiographical criticism and the fundamental content of historiographical theory.
Group 2 covers historiography from the pre-Qin to the Qin-Han periods, offering new perspectives on traditional topics while also striving to break through conventional research boundaries.
Group 3 examines historiography from the Wei-Jin-Northern and Southern Dynasties to the Ming Dynasty, attempting to expand the scope of traditional research topics and broaden the study of historiographical history.
Group 4 focuses on modern Marxist historiography, emphasizing research and reflection on the dissemination and practical application of Marxist historiographical theory.
Group 5 explores the history of Western historiography, highlighting the influence of schools of thought on historiographical research and case studies of individual historians.
Theories of history and the history of historiography are disciplines in the process of development, and we are merely a group at the initial stage of growth, both in terms of academic expertise and research level.
