Features: Alice's Journey to China is a novel created by the literary master Shen Congwen, and it is also his only full-length novel. The novel draws inspiration from the techniques and style of the literary masterpiece Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, transporting the protagonist, Miss Alice, an English girl, and Mr. Hare, the gentleman rabbit, to China. They travel across China's major cities and remote villages, encountering many absurd, strange, and astonishing things. Later, witnessing the inhumane slave trade in the Miao inhabited areas of Western Hunan, the two sadly leave China. Through the eyes of Miss Alice and Mr. Hare, the novel delivers a severe critique and satire of the ignorance, superstition, stagnation, and darkness of Chinese society in the 1920s.
