About the Author:
Deming (W. Edwards Deming), known as the "Father of Modern Quality Management," was born in Iowa, USA, in 1900. He received his Ph.D. in mathematical physics from Yale University in 1928. In 1950, he traveled to Japan to serve as a lecturer and consultant in the industrial sector. In 1956, he was awarded the Second Class Order of the Sacred Treasure by Emperor Hirohito. In 1987, President Reagan presented him with the National Medal of Technology. He lived a long life and passed away in December 1993. Deming traveled the world extensively, introducing his famous "Four-Day Seminar," attracting tens of thousands of attendees each year. To commemorate his early contributions to the development of Japanese industry, the Japan Science and Technology Union established the Deming Prize in his name. To this day, his portrait hangs in the main hall of Toyota's Tokyo headquarters. In 1980, after NBC aired the program "Japan Can, Why Can't We?", Deming's management philosophy sparked a quality revolution in the United States, significantly boosting American productivity and competitive standing.
