Features: The International Design Biennial was held in Saint-Etienne, France, from November 16 to 24, 2002. Over 20,000 works were exhibited by more than 1,500 designers from 80 countries (including fashion shows by 21 groups and individuals) across an exhibition space of 25,000 square meters. The exhibits covered a wide range of fields, from daily household items, furniture, fashion, travel, and leisure to architecture, automobiles, materials, home appliances, environmental protection, corporate design, urban construction, and transportation. These works represented the modern designs of various styles and cultural characteristics by designers. This event served as an analysis and review of the state of design phenomena worldwide, with independent designers, design firms, companies, retailers, design research centers, and design schools participating to showcase their research and development processes. At the same time, it also raised a new question: eco-design, or the issue of "designing for tomorrow's environment today."
