(1) Determine whether the environmental quality meets the national environmental quality standards;
(2) Assess the pollution impact caused by pollution sources—distribution models of pollutants in space, areas with the highest pollutant concentrations and potential severe issues, and establish control and prevention strategies, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of prevention measures;
(3) Track the pollution pathways and sources of pollutants based on pollutant concentration distribution;
(4) Collect data on environmental background and trends, accumulate long-term monitoring records, and provide a basis for formulating or revising environmental quality standards;
(5) Study pollution diffusion models to conduct predictive evaluations of the impact of new pollution sources on the environment, providing reference for decision-making authorities and data for pollution prediction and forecasting.
To achieve the above objectives, environmental analysis and monitoring must be based on pollution surveys, supported by reliable and accurate measurement methods and trained specialized personnel to ensure satisfactory results. Since the Chinese government promulgated the Environmental Protection Law in September 1979, environmental protection work has entered a new era, driving the development of environmental analysis and monitoring technology. However, from the perspective of environmental protection work, there is still a gap. Therefore, mastering and researching advanced testing methods, standardizing monitoring and analysis techniques, training qualified monitoring and analysis personnel, gradually establishing environmental monitoring networks, and properly handling monitoring data have become key factors for the smooth progress of environmental science and environmental protection work in China.
