Features: Since the first edition of the CECL textbook in early 1987, it has been continuously reprinted and used. Today, twelve years later, reviewing the CECL textbook, we can draw two conclusions:
(1) The writing of CECL twelve years ago was based on internationally advanced and domestically pioneering communicative language teaching theories at the time. After twelve years of testing, it has been proven that the teaching theory system of CECL remains advanced to this day and still possesses vigorous vitality and development potential. This is the value of revising CECL.
(2) Over the past twelve years, the world has been continuously developing and changing. This ever-evolving reality naturally imposes continuous changes and developments on English teaching. From this perspective, the textbook published twelve years ago must be updated in both content and methods to keep pace with the development of domestic and international trends. This is the necessity of revising CECL. Based on these two conclusions, we have made the decision to revise CECL. The revision principles are as follows:
(1) Maintain the original communicative language teaching writing system. Retain the highly flexible and variable characteristics of the original units.
(2) Further promote and implement the communicative language teaching philosophy while placing greater emphasis on the integration of cultural knowledge in language teaching. This is not only reflected in the content and methods of the textbook but is also supplemented extensively in the teacher's manual, providing teachers with thorough guidance on teaching philosophy, methods, and cultural background knowledge.
(3) Update outdated or time-limited materials and add content that reflects the era of the new century.
(4) Based on twelve years of classroom teaching experience, improve or remove parts of the teaching that were not effective, and supplement or enhance weak areas.
