The Story of Food: Nostalgia

Features: Yuying's writing style might be too simple and unadorned, as she is not a professional writer. She often asked me to revise her articles, but I dared not, because too many changes would turn her unique style into my "academic style," losing its original flavor. I told her that her writing style is a fusion of Cantonese and classical Chinese from Ming and Qing poetry, fiction, and prose, without any other rhetorical embellishments. If read in Cantonese, it might have even more literary charm. The main content of this book is divided into four parts: The first part is about her childhood, with the world outside Kowloon City as the setting, where her grandmother is the main character. The food, of course, is full of Cantonese flavors; the second part narrates her life in the United States and with her ex-husband, where she accompanied her studies and also cooked, serving everyone, filled with both sweet and sour, bitter and spicy flavors, as well as many touching but unremarkable stories; the third part describes the ordinary days I spent with her, full of fun, and even includes my gluttonous nature; the fourth part is about the delicious dishes served by her friends and relatives, which Yuying writes about, also expressing our gratitude. Readers can browse freely, enjoy the food in each chapter, or even try to replicate it, which would make her even happier.
