This book includes three short stories by the famous Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, from which we can feel his meticulous psychological portrayal and his brilliant analysis of character traits. "The Story of Lake Geneva" describes the story of a Russian soldier who escaped from a French prisoner-of-war camp and mistook Lake Geneva for his hometown, Lake Baikal. The Russian soldier, knowing nothing about the outside world, was determined to return home to reunite with his wife and children. However, the cruel reality of war made it impossible for him to fulfill this simple and beautiful wish. In despair over reality, the soldier had no choice but to take his own life. "The Invisible Collection" tells the story of the profound disaster caused by post-World War I German inflation on ordinary families, through the conversation of the owner of an antique shop in Berlin. The soaring prices force the wife and daughter of a young lieutenant to sell the paintings that the old man had painstakingly collected over a lifetime to support the family. The reckless fraud of the art dealer traps them in a never-ending cycle of buying paintings, while the blind old man, unaware of the situation, passionately introduces his "treasures" to the collector. "The Family Governess" on the surface is a story we have heard countless times about a wealthy young man who seduces and then abandons a family governess. But what makes this story unique is that it focuses on this "dishonorable incident" from the perspective of two underage girls. The girls' psychological maturation process faithfully records everything, from the base and despicable aspects of the family's internal affairs. Their pure and innocent hearts gradually become sensitive and suspicious, and the fear of the unknown world deeply imprints into their souls.
