Liu Jiyong's "Tumult in Heaven"

Author: Liu Jiyong

Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: A set of Chinese ink and heavy color paintings titled "The Battle of Heaven's Palace," consisting of eight panels, on silk with stone pigments. The size of the paintings is relatively large but limited compared to the pages of this book. This is a classic artwork created by Mr. Liu Jiyong in 1955, where he spent over six months in seclusion in his studio, shutting himself off from the outside world, working day and night, and neglecting sleep and food to independently conceptualize and create the "Battle of Wu Song and the Tiger" series, which comprises sixteen panels. After the publication of the "Battle of Wu Song and the Tiger" series, it further enhanced the realistic representation in Chinese painting art and its influence and status in the field of world art. In particular, Mr. Liu Jiyong used traditional Chinese painting tools and techniques, capturing the rich and diverse content of the scenes with exceptional precision. The mythological figures in his works exhibit varied expressions and lifelike postures, with clear skeletal structures; the landscapes are beautiful, filled with the sounds of birds and fragrant flowers, and abundant fruits; the props, armor, weapons, and various costumes are rendered with striking realism. This extraordinary realm, which Western oil painting techniques struggle to express, has indeed won unanimous praise from art enthusiasts and scholars both domestically and internationally.
