Features: This Student English-Chinese Chinese-English Dictionary is a compact English reference book suitable for students of ordinary middle schools and higher education institutions (literature, science, and engineering) in China, as well as self-learners of English. It can also be used as a teaching reference for English teachers. The vocabulary scope of this dictionary covers basic English words, including all words, compound words, and phrases from the newly compiled English textbooks for primary and senior high schools in China (as well as old editions). It also includes the total vocabulary required for English majors in the first and second years of higher education institutions, as well as for undergraduate students of literature, science, and engineering in College English Levels 1-6 (College English Stages 1-6). This is based on the vocabulary list provided in the Teaching Outline for College English published by the Higher Education Press and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. All words and phrases listed in the 1987 Revised Review Outline for the National Advanced Education Institution Entrance Examinations issued by the State Education Commission of the People's Republic of China are also included in this dictionary. In addition, it references various dictionaries and incorporates a considerable number of other commonly used words. The total number of words included in this dictionary is as follows:
(1) English-Chinese section: 10,000 words (including derivatives), 1,900 compound words, and 2,700 phrases;
(2) Chinese-English section: 2,400 single characters and 10,000 compound words.
This quantity is sufficient to meet students' learning needs both inside and outside the classroom. The dictionary is a combined English-Chinese and Chinese-English reference, catering to both middle and higher education, making it convenient for both (consultation) and review. The English-Chinese section includes nearly 12,000 words and 27,000 phrases, while the Chinese-English section includes 2,400 words and 1,000 compound words.
