Should I check if the back of the head was injured?

Patient's question:

A 2-year-old baby, while playing at home today, accidentally fell and hit the back of his head. When he was picked up, he cried continuously, but after sleeping for a while, he was fine when he got up. Besides being a bit red, there were no other symptoms that reoccurred. This couldn't have made the baby brain-damaged, could it?
What kind of assistance would you like: A 2-year-old baby fell and hit the back of his head—will there be any problems?

Doctor's answer:

If your baby suffered a head injury and did not experience symptoms such as vomiting or fainting at the time, and if the baby has not had a recurrence of fainting now, it is generally not interfering. It will absolutely not cause any interference with intelligence. The broken skin can be treated with antiseptic solutions like povidone-iodine for sterilization, or you can apply mercurochrome to the affected area. These treatments do not interfere with the baby's brain development, but the two should not be used simultaneously. If you are still not reassured, you can also go to the hospital for an X-ray to confirm. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
