How to clean a baby's ear canal

Patient's question:

Detailed medical history and purpose of consultation: The child failed the hearing screening at birth but passed the follow-up test 42 days later. The doctor said it was due to dirty ear canals, which might have been blocked during the initial check. Please advise:
1. Should the child continue with hearing tests?
2. There is some dirt in the child's ear canal now, and sometimes it falls out like earwax. How should I clean the child's ear canal?
Medical history: At one month old, yellowish material similar to earwax was found in the ear.
Previous diagnoses, treatments, and outcomes: Initial hearing test failed; follow-up test after 42 days.

Doctor's answer:

Before the baby goes to sleep, apply 1-2 drops of ear drops to her ear. While applying the drops, you should have the baby lying on the bed or holding her on your knees. Her head should be tilted to the side. After the drops are applied, keep the baby in this position for 2 minutes to allow the earwax to be fully diluted. Then, plug the baby's ear with a cotton ball made of a sterile cotton ball. The next day, remove the cotton ball, and the earwax may stick to it, allowing it to be removed from the ear canal.
