Features: A San's first love, Bill, was an American diplomat. In college, A San was willing to be expelled just to be with Bill, because she clearly stated: "I love Bill." After breaking up with Bill, A San dated foreign men such as the Frenchman Martin, an American expert, and a Belgian. She did so to recapture the feeling and atmosphere she had with Bill. She frequently visited hotels and the apartments of these foreign men. She wasn't doing it for money, but others mistakenly labeled her as a prostitute, leading to her being sent to a labor re-education camp. The female inmates there gave her the nickname "White Work." The latter half of the story depicts A San's life in the labor camp, primarily focusing on her relationships with other women and the significant differences in personality and psychology between them.
