Features: This is currently the most extensive collection of Chinese ancient porcelain inscriptions in terms of quantity, category, exemplary nature, knowledge, practicality, and ease of retrieval. It serves as both a reference book for professionals in Chinese ceramics, arts and crafts, calligraphy, and seal carving, and an important reference for art theorists, antique collectors, and art enthusiasts. The Great Compendium of Porcelain Inscriptions Throughout Chinese History is our first color illustrated compendium for identifying porcelain inscriptions. It is compiled from over 10,000 photographs of various historical porcelain inscriptions and unearthed ceramic fragments taken by Dr. Xiong Liao, a porcelain scholar, during nearly 30 years of visits to museums, archaeological institutions, and other cultural heritage organizations. From these, more than 1,600 representative color photographs have been selected and compiled. The compiler has also conducted in-depth research on their characteristics, connotations, and evolutionary development. This compendium is divided into 28 categories, including dated inscriptions, stem-branch inscriptions, hall name inscriptions, workshop inscriptions, pattern inscriptions, auspicious inscriptions, and ceramic artist inscriptions, among others. At the end of the book, there is an inclusion of inscriptions recorded in literature and inscriptions by contemporary renowned ceramic artists, along with an appendix and index for easy reference.
