Features: Introduction: Labor law and social security law are extremely important laws in social life. As China moves toward a socialist market economy, the close relationship between these two laws and all members of society has become increasingly prominent. Learning and mastering labor law and social security law is not only theoretically necessary but also holds significant practical importance for the development of socialist rule of law in China. Moreover, it provides direct practical value for learners themselves. With the progress of China's socialist rule of law, issues such as labor and the right to labor, employment and the right to employment, the establishment, termination, suspension, invalidation, performance, and conclusion of labor contracts, labor safety and health, labor environment and conditions, the resettlement and livelihood security of laid-off workers, legal sanctions for unpaid wages, special protections for minors and female workers, and other matters are constantly relevant to every member of society living in reality. How to protect the legitimate rights and interests of workers while developing the economy, how to reflect the legislative purpose of labor law in the increasing number of labor dispute cases, and how to limit the organizational, supervisory, and commanding authority of employers over workers within the scope permitted by labor law are all critical questions. When the supply and demand relationship in the labor market becomes severely unbalanced and unemployment becomes a common social phenomenon, how to achieve the legal principles of labor employment as stipulated by labor law becomes a pressing issue. These questions cannot be resolved by a single textbook but must be addressed by labor law and the study of labor law. Social security is an issue that concerns the entire population and the future. China still lacks a comprehensive law on social security or social insurance. However, the aging, illness, unemployment, childbirth, and workplace injuries of workers cannot be ignored due to the absence of such laws. On the contrary, they require constant attention and cannot be avoided. For example, workplace accidents and occupational diseases cause one death every three minutes worldwide, and at least four people are injured at work every second! It is now imperative to improve the legal framework for social security and to regulate social issues such as childbirth, illness, old age, occupational injuries, relief, preferential treatment, and social welfare. This textbook focuses on analyzing, understanding, and applying China's current labor laws while also paying attention to the labor and social security laws of major countries worldwide. It covers topics ranging from legislative systems for labor law and social security, management systems for labor and social insurance affairs, the fundamental rights and obligations of workers, basic systems for labor employment and employment security measures, general provisions and special protections for labor remuneration, labor protection systems and special protections for vulnerable groups, to the scope of social insurance coverage, methods for collecting social insurance premiums, improving the unemployment insurance system, the social management and services of old-age insurance, expenditure models for medical insurance, and the transformation of social relief functions. To highlight the principles of simplicity and practical application, the textbook is equipped with "" () to illustrate relevant theories and legal norms, which is the textbook's primary effort. Remote teaching, facilitated by the convenience of the internet, also provides an opportunity to link "" (), with the timeliness of the used materials being particularly prominent. To help readers understand and grasp the key content of the study, the textbook emphasizes the important points through "Chapter Summaries" and "Discussion Questions." Therefore, this book is not only suitable for the specific needs of remote education but also serves as a reference for theoretical researchers concerned with the development of China's labor law and social security legal systems, as well as for practitioners engaged in labor and social security management and judicial arbitration, and practicing lawyers. It is also applicable to undergraduate and graduate students in law and labor economics programs at universities and colleges. Due to the limitations of the author's expertise, any shortcomings are sincerely appreciated.
