Author: Ye Lingfeng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: When reviewing existing works on the history of 20th-century Chinese prose, the name of Ye Lingfeng rarely appears. For example, in the recently published History of Modern Chinese Prose (Revised Edition) (first published in September 1997 by Shandong Literature and Art Press), when discussing the prose of the members of the Creation Society, figures such as Guo Moruo, Yu Dafu, Cheng Fangwu, Hong Weifang, and Ni Yide are all mentioned, yet Ye Lingfeng is conspicuously absent. Such an oversight is certainly regrettable. In fact, in the vast river of 20th-century Chinese prose development, Ye Lingfeng is neither an inconspicuous bubble nor a fleeting ripple, but rather a powerful wave that continuously surges forward. Ye Lingfeng's original contributions to prose and essay writing are no less remarkable than those of his peers in the Creation Society. Moreover, his long-standing dedication to writing about books has placed him on par with Tang Junyi and Huang Shenglang, establishing him as one of the "three great masters of book discussions" in the history of 20th-century Chinese prose.
