Features: This book is the teacher's manual for the sixth volume of "College English" (New Edition), "Comprehensive Course," and is intended for teacher reference. The book is composed of the following parts: lesson plans from Unit 1 to Unit 8; exercise answers; and reference translations of Text A and Text B. The lesson plans in this book are developed in accordance with the requirements of the teaching standards for college English courses in China in the new century, covering listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. They also strive to reflect the achievements of recent reforms in college English teaching. The organization of teaching content focuses on cultivating students' comprehensive use of English skills. Each unit's lesson plan is structured into the following three parts:
1. Reference Lesson Plan: Includes the arrangement of class hours and content for each unit. Each unit generally requires five class hours. The themes related to the text are consistently integrated throughout the lesson plan. The teaching content is divided into three parts: pre-reading activities, during-reading activities, and post-reading activities. Pre-reading activities aim to activate students' existing knowledge schemas; during-reading activities continuously provide learning tasks to ensure students actively participate in classroom learning; post-reading activities offer students opportunities to practice and help them expand their knowledge schemas. The entire teaching process of the unit, starting from the text's structure, guides students to closely connect with the context, learn language knowledge and skills, and comprehensively develop their practical abilities in reading, listening, speaking, writing, and translation.
2. Cultural Notes: Includes author biographies, character introductions, and background knowledge related to the texts, such as British and American cultural education, social life, and customs.
3. Language Learning: Includes annotations on difficult points in the text, as well as examples of sentence patterns and idioms used. Key words selected from Text A and requiring repeated practice are annotated as language points with examples. Given the polysemy of English words, in addition to explaining the meaning and usage of the word as it appears in the text, appropriate introductions are also provided on its meanings and usage at other levels. Whether or not to explain the word to students or when to explain it can be flexibly determined by the teacher.
