Features: Since the publication of The Intensive English Course in April 2000, it has won the favor of many teachers and students who have tried it, thanks to its high starting point, broad perspective, rich cultural connotation, and special emphasis on cultivating students' innovative thinking abilities. However, during the trial use, we also found that the new textbook, which extensively uses excellent passages from English publications from the 1980s and 1990s, brings fresh language, a wealth of information, and vibrant thinking, but also presents unprecedented challenges. The most prominent ones are as follows: (1) A large vocabulary with many new words, greatly exceeding the vocabulary of high school graduates. (2) Longer text passages, mostly written in formal language, with some complex sentences and structures, which differ significantly from the spoken language students are familiar with. (3) The cultural content of the texts is fresh yet profound, requiring a substantial amount of background knowledge to understand it correctly and deeply. This book is the Teaching Reference Manual for the textbook, providing practical assistance to teachers and students who use it for teaching and learning.
