Features: The annotations for word meanings in this book are generally in Chinese, but English annotations are added to words or idioms that are difficult for candidates to understand, in order to deepen their comprehension of word meanings. Although the current exam syllabus lists certain synonyms of a word, the synonyms that appear in postgraduate entrance exam papers often go far beyond the scope specified in the syllabus, such as nonconformist (unconventional) and detached (impartial). Therefore, this book lists common synonyms, antonyms, and compound words of each entry, along with their etymologies and meanings. To help candidates organically connect the vocabulary they have learned, the book includes synonyms, near-synonyms, antonyms, and compound words of common words, and provides concise and clear distinctions between some synonyms and near-synonyms. This book provides common collocations and example sentences for most words. The example sentences range from simple and easy to understand to more complex ones, allowing candidates to improve their reading comprehension skills through vocabulary learning. Given that many current dictionaries show signs of outdated example sentences, this book selects sentences from postgraduate entrance exam papers as example sentences for certain words to ensure that candidates encounter contemporary and relevant examples. This closely aligns vocabulary learning with practical exam needs. For idioms formed from syllabus words, for practical purposes, this book does not aim for comprehensiveness but only lists common and frequently tested idioms with example sentences. To enable candidates to conduct comprehensive self-assessments during vocabulary learning, this book also includes vocabulary self-assessment exercises with answers.
