1917-2000 Chinese Modern Literature Classics - (I)

Author: Zhu Donglin

Features: This anthology emphasizes teaching practicality. Considering the expansion of higher education and the shortage of books relative to the increased student population in universities, this anthology selects several important mid-length novels and multi-act plays for teaching purposes. Some literary masterpieces, which have already been listed as key reading texts in current high school Chinese textbooks and have been repeatedly selected in various anthologies, are generally not repeated here to save space. Novels are one of the focuses of modern teaching. Due to space constraints, novels are not included in this anthology and are listed separately after the selection index of Volume 2 and Volume 3. The listed works serve as a basic reading list for course teaching, and instructors can select some of them to guide students in their reading. We do not advocate providing plot summaries of novels to encourage students to read the original texts directly. The entire anthology consists of four volumes:
Volume 1: Novels (1917–1949)
Volume 2: Poetry, Prose, and Drama (1917–1949)
Volume 3: Novels (1949–2000)
Volume 4: Poetry, Prose, and Drama (1949–2000)
