However, due to historical reasons, a vast amount of cultural heritage has been spread overseas, with tens of thousands of invaluable treasures preserved abroad. These numerous ancient cultural treasures hold significant value and importance for studying ancient China and the exchange of global cultural interactions. Therefore, introducing to the Chinese people the ancient Chinese cultural artifacts preserved worldwide, as well as the institutions that house these cultural treasures, is a meaningful endeavor. To this end, Shanghai People's Publishing House has launched the "Exploring Overseas Chinese Cultural Treasures Series," actively taking on the publishing task to facilitate international cultural exchange while allowing the Chinese people to appreciate the achievements and charm of ancient Chinese civilization.
The book The Hōryū-ji utilizes numerous precious images and elegant text to systematically introduce the Chinese Tang-style wooden ancient buildings preserved in the Hōryū-ji during Japan's Tenmu period, along with a vast collection of Tang-era treasures. Combined with ancient Japanese history, it reflects the life scenes of the Japanese imperial family. These treasures recreate the splendor of the Tang civilization and the brilliance of ancient Eastern culture, allowing us to appreciate the grandeur of the Tang era and the flourishing exchange of cultural interactions between ancient China and Japan.
