Features: Meng Wentong (1894—1968), styled Erdá and Wen Tong, was a native of Yanting, Sichuan. He was an outstanding scholar of modern China. His teachers included the Confucian master Liao Ping and the Buddhist master Ouyang Jingwu. Throughout his life, he achieved remarkable accomplishments and profound expertise in numerous fields, including pre-Qin history, Song history, ethnic history, the history of ancient academic thought, the history of Taoism, and the history of historiography. This book collects articles by more than twenty of his close friends and students, such as Tang Yongtong, Qian Mu, Yang Xiangkui, and Xiao Naofu, who describe and evaluate Meng Wentong's erudite and witty scholarly demeanor, his comprehensive mastery of Confucian, historical, and philosophical traditions, and his relentless pursuit of knowledge. At the beginning of the book is Meng Wentong's "Random Remarks on Scholarship," which reflects the essence of his lifelong dedication to learning. The revised edition is still edited by Professor Meng Mo, with the addition of old and new articles. It also includes dozens of newly compiled "Random Remarks on Scholarship" and a chronological bibliography of his works, making the content even richer.
