Zizhi Tongjian (Second Series) - The Rise and Fall of the Later Han: Bai Yong's Plain Language Version

Author: Sima Guang compiled, Bo Yang translated
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-09-01
Features: The colloquial version of Zizhi Tongjian created by Taiwanese scholar Bo Yang, titled "Qin Wind and Han Rain" (4 volumes), was published by Beiyue Literature and Art Press. Bo Yang began working on the translation of Zizhi Tongjian in 1983, publishing it in monthly magazine format by the Taiwan Yilin Publishing Company, with the title Bo Yang's Version of Zizhi Tongjian. Bo Yang spent time (1983-1993) translating Zizhi Tongjian into modern language, personally redrawing maps, and infusing his own historical perspectives, discussing the causes of historical success and failure. This made a history book originally intended only for emperors, generals, and ministers so approachable to readers today. The series of books has undergone extensive revisions. On one hand, the names and places in the original text have been fully corrected, fixing numerous omissions and errors. On the other hand, words and narrative styles unsuitable for readers in mainland China and modern Chinese norms have been adapted accordingly. Additionally, historical maps and charts were redrawn based on the Historical Atlas of China and new research findings.
