Features: The history of humanity is fundamentally linked to the history of art created by humans. Art was born alongside humanity and has developed alongside it. If we were to seek an "origin" for human art, based on the earliest known human art relics discovered to date, it would be the Paleolithic cave paintings found in the Altamira Cave in Spain in 1879, as well as the Lascaux Cave paintings discovered in southern France in 1940. These paintings are considered exemplary of prehistoric human culture. They almost employ the same techniques—solid painting, contour painting, and a combination of solid and contour painting—with water and mineral pigments as their medium. Watercolor, as its name implies, is a painting form that uses water as a medium to mix pigments, thereby achieving the artist's creative purpose. Based on this understanding of watercolor as a medium that mixes pigments with water to depict scenes, as well as the prehistoric cave paintings currently known to humanity, watercolor is one of the oldest painting genres in the history of human painting.
