American Literature (Upper and Lower) (English-Chinese Parallel Reader)

Features: This book provides concise introductions and discussions on the literature and literary figures of various historical periods in the United States, helping readers improve their English proficiency and expand their knowledge of American history and literature. To help Chinese readers better understand the United States and strengthen the friendship between the Chinese and American peoples, with the approval of the Cultural Section of the U.S. Embassy, this company has specially reprinted and distributed it domestically. Special thanks are extended to the Cultural Section of the U.S. Embassy for their enthusiastic support and assistance. Since its publication in 1954, this book has been reprinted several times, and each time I have taken the opportunity to make some general revisions and additions. This edition covers a broader scope, partly because I am no longer as ignorant of the United States as I once was, and partly because my views on certain writers, including Emerson, have changed. The last chapter was entirely rewritten, and the main issue still lies in the limited length of the book. If I could double the length, it would be much easier to write and allow for a fairer treatment of many outstanding writers.
