New Yorker cartoons. Children's edition

Author: (American) Manchow, translated by Guo Jia
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: Parents might all expect their children to come into the world with an instruction manual, just like a newly bought computer. That would certainly make things much easier. Unfortunately, both worries and joys go hand in hand. Anyway, while these little ones give us headaches, they also let us experience the richness of life's joys. We somewhat helplessly form a partnership with them, watching them crash through our lives, unable to change their passion for growing up, just like the scenes depicted in this book. The New Yorker has never been a purely literary magazine. Current events and domestic and international politics have always been its important content. It is no longer a magazine primarily characterized by humor. Except for cartoons, it has rarely published humorous articles in recent years. The two editors after Sean—Robert Gottlieb and Tina Brown—made many changes to the magazine. The style of the New Yorker today is much more lively and vibrant than in the past. The feature of the magazine is "City Events," which lists cultural activities in and around New York City each week, such as movies, theater performances, art exhibitions, concerts, photo exhibitions, and dance performances. Then there is the retained classic column "Local Topics," mainly short commentaries on current events and politics. Other essential columns include fiction, poetry, and reviews, such as book reviews, film reviews, and music reviews. The rest are special feature articles, often including a "Letter from Abroad" and a special report written by a so-called "freelance journalist."
