However, this is a daunting "high hurdle." A considerable number of students, upon seeing the dense array of English words, become disheartened and lose their confidence and courage to master them. Memorizing English vocabulary requires a "coenzyme," a motivator, and a boost, and color is one of them. This book adopts a novel and intuitive two-color double-column layout. The word selection scope follows the newly revised "Outline for College English Teaching" by the Ministry of Education, ensuring a certain level of authority. In the left column, words are arranged in alphabetical order, followed by phonetics, part of speech, and definitions. The right column mainly consists of four parts: 1) Memory techniques; 2) Synonyms and antonyms, referred to as "Syn" and "Ant" in the book; 3) Example sentences; 4) Phrases. For the convenience of readers, "Memory Techniques," "Syn," and "Ant" are highlighted in italics, and phrases are marked with a "▲."
