Features: This book adopts a novel and intuitive color-coded double-column layout, with a vocabulary range strictly adhering to the requirements of the "National Professional and Technical Personnel English Test Band B Syllabus" issued by the Ministry of Personnel, ensuring a certain level of authority. In the left column, entries are arranged alphabetically by the first letter, followed by phonetic symbols, part of speech, and definitions. When a word has different spellings, they are separated by a forward slash (e.g., Catalog/Catalogue). The phonetic symbols follow the national standard 13th edition for pronunciation, based on the actual conditions of the National Professional and Technical Personnel English Proficiency Test. When a word has different parts of speech, they are labeled below the phonetic symbols. When different parts of speech have distinct definitions, they are labeled under the corresponding part of speech. Definitions with multiple meanings are separated by ①, ②, ③.
The right column is a distinctive "highlight" in the book's layout, consisting mainly of four parts:
1. Synonyms and Antonyms: In the book, these are referred to as "" (synonyms) and "" (antonyms). It is worth noting that the selection of synonyms and antonyms is based on rigorous comparison according to difficulty levels, aiming to choose vocabulary that is closely aligned in level and commonly used, rather than selecting them solely for the sake of synonyms or antonyms.
2. Vivid Example Sentences: Based on the latest trends in English self-study exams, we leverage our strong connection with overseas English current affairs to introduce over a dozen types of lively example sentences, including poetic, humorous, current affairs, workplace, wise, campus, and more. Each example sentence is followed by a Chinese explanation. Sentences of different types are arranged on separate lines, while sentences of the same type are continued with a forward slash (/) separating them.
3. Memory Techniques: This book primarily focuses on root-based memory methods, while also incorporating practical techniques such as "extension," "association," and "homophones" where appropriate.
4. High-Score Breakthroughs: This section mainly consists of four modules: "Key Phrases," "Vocabulary Expansion," "Grammar Acceleration," and "Distinguishing." The "Key Phrases" module collects frequently tested or commonly used phrases related to the entry, with the word in question replaced by "~" and phrases arranged alphabetically. The "Vocabulary Expansion" module includes vocabulary derived from the entry, frequently tested or commonly used. The "Grammar Acceleration" module focuses on common collocations, important grammatical features, and key sentence patterns related to the entry. The "Distinguishing" module emphasizes the differentiation between visually similar or semantically similar verbs.
For easy reference, the first three sections are marked with tabs, while the fourth section is marked with a different font. Due to space constraints, example sentences and explanations are omitted for some basic words with simple meanings and limited usage. To accommodate the layout, the definitions of such entries are uniformly moved to the right column.
