Color Basics and Applications

Features: This book is divided into ten chapters, covering three academic aspects: the principles of color generation (Chapters 1-3), systematic research on color (Chapters 4-7), and practical applications of color (Chapters 8-10). It begins by explaining what color is and how it is produced from the perspectives of optics, vision, and psychology. In the true sense, the study of color starts with chromatics, where color models, color relationships, and color systems are the subjects and content of contemporary global color research. Currently, the practical application of color has permeated all aspects of social life. The industries mentioned in Chapter 9, "Practical Applications of Color," are only a small part of what the author could cover, and some color knowledge related to certain industries was also cut during the editing process due to text simplification. Therefore, the "practical applications of color" discussed in this book are only a part of color's role in real-world social and cultural activities, not everything. Since color is an interdisciplinary field encompassing multiple disciplines such as natural sciences, engineering, and humanities, with interwoven relationships between them, some content in color studies is difficult to categorize precisely. For example, certain knowledge in physiological optics, as well as "illusions" and "color vision" in psychology, are all visual phenomena. This "phenomenon" is also a question of visual mechanisms, so in the fundamentals of color studies, it is more beneficial to discuss them within the context of vision to enhance people's understanding of color definitions.
