Features: Inheritance and innovation are the guiding principles of this book. Based on previous research, it aims to accurately grasp the intellectual trajectories of Ho Kai and Hu Liyuan and fully present their rich life experiences and inner worlds. The book is divided into four parts. The first part is a research review, comprehensively and systematically summarizing the studies on Ho and Hu by scholars both domestically and internationally over the past five to six decades. Overall, research in this area remains relatively weak, as evidenced by the limited number and quality of published monographs and academic papers. The second and third parts are biographical sections, exploring the life paths of Ho and Hu, as well as their complex intellectual journeys as cultural marginal figures during the period of societal transformation. The fourth part is the thought section, focusing on an analysis of Ho and Hu's ideas on the Great Unity, civil rights, and religious philosophy. The book argues that Ho and Hu were the most representative enlightenment thinkers of modern China, and their proposed comprehensive societal reform plans were unparalleled among their contemporaries. Ho and Hu's thought was both a product of Sino-Western integration and a synthesis of secular and religious influences, as well as a blend of reality and fantasy. The diversity of its constituent elements and the randomness of their combinations inevitably led to the awkwardness and helplessness of Ho and Hu's thought in the real world. After the old world was crushed by the wheels of history, Ho and Hu's thought could only become a symbol on the historical coordinate.
