Comparative Study of "Tōkyō Shilokuro" and "Songshu"

Author: Shu Renhui
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2007-01-01
Features: This book primarily adopts a comparative approach to examine the compilation formats, recorded contents, and the compilers' ideologies of Dongdu Shilüe and Songshǐ. It distinguishes between similarities and differences in their content and conducts brief textual research, aiming to contribute to the study of Song history. Since Dongdu Shilüe was compiled during the Southern Song Dynasty and only includes biographies and chronicles, while Songshǐ was compiled in the late Yuan Dynasty, encompassing both the Northern and Southern Song Dynasties with complete sections of chronicles, tables, treatises, and biographies, the comparison between the two books can only broadly take the content recorded in Dongdu Shilüe as the basic scope. Considering that the appendices of Dongdu Shilüe involve the history of the Liao and Jin dynasties, a brief comparison is also made with Liaoshi and Jinshi. Since Songshǐ is commonly annotated by Zhonghua Book Company and Dongdu Shilüe is more widely available in the form of a photocopied edition by Taiwan's Wenhai Publishing House and a photocopied version of the Siku Quanshu, the book uses these editions as reference standards for comparison, while also consulting the Wenhai edition of Dongdu Shilüe.
