What does a chest X-ray of emphysema look like?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. The hospital examination indicated a respiratory disease, but the medication hasn't been very effective. Recently, my cough has worsened. Could you please describe what a chest X-ray for emphysema looks like?

Doctor's answer:

The chest X-ray shows non-specific signs such as thickening of the airway wall, surrounding ureter sleeves or tubular activity, diffuse changes in the lung fields, emphysema being a characteristic finding of the disease, reduced lung volume, low diaphragm, decreased posterior sternum space, and increased lung transparency. Emphysema can affect any lung field, but the upper lung fields are most affected. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema lead to pulmonary hypertension, aortic expansion, and the aortic arch.
