Should a serious kidney cyst be operated on?

Patient's question:

Recently, my appetite has been poor, and I've also noticed some swelling in my body. I feel completely weak. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it's kidney disease. Is it serious and does it require surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Kidney cysts are a senile degenerative disease. Once discovered, treatment should be initiated early. Most cases can resolve spontaneously without clinical diagnosis. The decision for surgery depends on the size of the cyst and its impact on kidney function. If the cyst is small, close monitoring is sufficient as long as it remains below 6 to 10 centimeters and does not affect kidney function. If the cyst is larger and impacts kidney function, immediate surgery is required. Currently, minimally invasive procedures with high safety rates are preferred for surgical intervention.
