Patient's question:
Recently, I've been experiencing chest pain and tightness in my chest. The hospital examination indicated a respiratory disease, but the medication hasn't been very effective. Recently, my cough has worsened. Could you please describe what a chest X-ray for emphysema looks like?Doctor's answer:
The chest X-ray shows non-specific signs such as thickening of the airway wall, surrounding ureter sleeves or tubular activity, diffuse changes in the lung field, emphysema being a characteristic finding of the disease, reduced lung volume, low diaphragm, decreased posterior mediastinal space, and increased lung transparency. Emphysema can affect any part of the lung field, but the upper lung fields are most affected. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema lead to pulmonary hypertension, aortic expansion, and angulation.
