What is a liver cyst and how is it treated?

Patient's question:

I am 38 years old and have recently been feeling that my liver is very tired. I haven't had much appetite, and at night, I've been feeling stomach pain. I went to a nearby hospital for a check-up and was told it's a liver disease. They advised me to get injections. Could you please tell me what a liver cyst is and how it is treated?

Doctor's answer:

Hepatic cysts are relatively common benign liver diseases, categorized into parasitic and non-parasitic types. Non-parasitic cysts are more prevalent benign tumors, with congenital hepatic cysts being the most common in clinical diagnosis. There are two primary causes of their formation: one is congenital, resulting from abnormal development of bile ducts during embryonic stages. The other accounts for a small portion of hepatic cysts, caused by emotional trauma and inflammation. Smaller cysts generally do not require treatment and can be managed with periodic follow-up. Severe cases may necessitate surgical intervention.
