Patient's question:
Recently, my appetite has been poor, and I've been experiencing some swelling in my body. I feel weak all over. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was kidney disease. Could you please tell me how to care for someone with lupus nephritis?Doctor's answer:
Lupus nephritis patients should follow a light diet during remission, consuming more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins. Patients with oliguria, hypertension, edema, or azotemia should adhere to a low-salt, low-protein diet and limit fluid intake. When edema subsides, blood pressure normalizes, azotemia disappears, and symptoms resolve without any signs of illness, the diet can be relaxed. Avoid consuming many photosensitive foods daily, such as celery, parsley, figs, etc. Those with an allergic constitution should also minimize the intake of various seafood to prevent allergies that may trigger lupus flare-ups.
